In general, the cells are represented in rectangular form and are located by a row number/letter and a column number/letter, and can be identified with a unique name, for example B4 (column B, row 4).
A cell can contain text, numbers, formulas or instructions.
Address of a cell in Excel
The address of a cell in a spreadsheet is a route that allows you to access a certain cell within the spreadsheet.
In Excel, the address of a cell has the following form: $ x $ y, where x is the letter of the column and y is the row number.
For example, $ A $ 1, is referring to the cell in column A, row 1.
Another example, $ D $ 3, is the address to the cell that is located in the colu mna D, row 3.
There is the ADDRESS function in Excel that allows to obtain the address of a cell in a spreadsheet, using the specific row and column numbers.For example, ADDRESS (3; 7 ) returns $ 3 $ 7.
There is also the address to multiple cells (a rectangle of cells is formed, if we see it graphically).In this case they are usually called "range".

Active cell in an Excel spreadsheet
In the image below you can see a screenshot of a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel.
If multiple cells are selected, the active cell is located in the first cell that has been selected, as seen in the image, it will be cell B2.
