(metatags filling).Spamdexing technique that consists of using certain keywords within the metatags of a web page.

In the past, search engines used the metatags of a web page, to determine the type of content and keywords that the creator of the website included, to report on the information contained in the website.The webmasters began to abuse metatags, including hundreds of keywords that even had no relation to the content of the particular website, achieving that search engines no longer take metatags into account.

However, metatags are believed to be taken into account by search engines only on websites considered "respectable."
