Hates became a language that allows you to configure and parameterize modems. Those devices that allow you to implement these commands are considered "compatible with Hayes ".
Each command set consists of a series of short text that can be combined to produce commands for operations such as dialing, cutting, changing connection parameters, etc.The vast majority of modem dial-up uses Hayes commands or variants.
Part of the Hayes command set was included in the V.25ter protocol (current V.250) by the ITU-T.The adoption of this standard made unnecessary the development of specific drivers for different modems.
Commands begin with "AT" which means "Attention." For this reason they are also known as "AT commands".
From Windows 95 began to develop specific drivers for each m Odem, so the utility of the Hayes commands was reduced. Many modem manufacturers stopped implementing them.
