Definition of Norton Commander (NC)

Norton Commander was a historic file manager (of the OFM type), written by John Socha and published by Peter Norton Computing (later acquired in 1990 by Symantec).

Norton Commander provided a text-based user interface for manage files in MS-DOS.

John Socha started working at Norton Commander in 1984; At that time, I call it "Visual DOS" or "VDOS."

It was officially developed between 1986 and 1998.The latest MS-DOS version of Norton Commander, 5.51, was released on July 1, 1998.
