(Parallel ATA).PATA is an interface standard for connections between computer storage devices, such as hard drives, CD-ROM drives and solid-state drives. The standard is maintained by the X3/INCITS committee.
ATA parallel or PATA is the original ATA, which began to be named in 2003 after the Serial ATA was launched.
The PATA standard allows cables with a length of up to 46 centimeters (18 inches), by this limitation this technology is only used to connect storage devices within the cabinet of some computers.
For many years, ATA provided the most common and least expensive interface for this application. They have now been replaced almost in entirely by Serial ATA (SATA) on new computers.
