VMware Workstation definition

VMware Workstation is a software product of VMware Inc., which consists of a virtual machine for x86 and x86-64 computers.

This software allows users to arm multiple x86 and x86-64 virtual computers and use one or more of those virtual computers simultaneously with the host operating system.Each virtual machine instance can run its own guest operating system such as Windows, Linux, etc.

In simple terms, VMware Workstation allows a physical machine to run two or more operating systems simultaneously.Other VMWare products can help manage VMware virtual machines across multiple host machines.

VMware Workstation also provides the ability to simulate some hardware devices.For example, you can mount an ISO file as a CD-ROM, or files.vmdk as hard drives.

You can also take "snapshots" of an operating system, creating "restore points", thus allowing to return to the exact state in which the system was at that time when desired.
